Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

AI Exam Prep (aiexamprep.in) is a free online service that generates AI-powered practice exam questions. It is built and operated by Chanukya Vempati (contact: our contact form).

2. What data we collect

Free practice tests do not require an account or any personal information. Creating an account is only needed to purchase and use Pro credits. The data we collect is described below.

  • IP address — collected server-side for usage rate-limiting (to prevent abuse) and aggregate analytics (country-level visitor counts). We do not link IP addresses to individuals or store them beyond their purpose.
  • Exam session data — your questions, answers, and results are stored only in your browser’s localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is cleared when you clear your browser data.
  • Questions you submit — text or images you paste into the generator are sent to an AI provider to generate practice questions: Google Gemini for free-tier generation, or Anthropic Claude for Pro-tier generation. They are not stored by the AI provider or us after processing.
  • Optional ratings and reviews — if you choose to rate the app, your review text and a hashed identifier are stored in our database.
  • Account & sign-in (Pro only) — if you sign up for Pro, we store your email address and a server-side credit balance, tied together to identify your account. Sign-in works via a one-time magic link sent to your email (no password) using Resend as our email provider. A session is kept in an httpOnly cookie so you stay signed in.
  • Payment data (Pro only) — purchases are processed by Razorpay. We never see or store your card, UPI, or bank details — Razorpay handles that directly and shares back only a payment/order ID and amount, which we store to credit your account and keep a purchase record.

3. Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. GA4 sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) in your browser to distinguish visitors and track page views. This data is processed by Google in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy.

We also use Google AdSense to show ads. AdSense may set cookies to serve personalised advertisements based on your interests. You can opt out of personalised ads via Google Ad Settings.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

4. Third-party services

  • Google Gemini API — AI question generation for the free tier. Questions you submit are processed by Google.
  • Anthropic Claude API — AI question generation for Pro-tier exams. Questions you submit are processed by Anthropic.
  • Google Analytics 4 — website traffic analytics.
  • Google AdSense — advertisement delivery.
  • Upstash Redis — stores aggregate usage counters and ratings, plus, for Pro accounts, your email, credit balance, and purchase history.
  • Razorpay — payment processing for Pro purchases. Card/UPI/bank details are handled entirely by Razorpay; we never receive or store them.
  • Resend — sends the magic-link sign-in email for Pro accounts.

We do not sell your data to any third party.

5. Data retention

IP-based rate-limit counters are reset daily. Aggregate analytics data is retained by Google Analytics per their data retention settings. Review data is retained indefinitely unless you request deletion. For Pro accounts, your email, credit balance, and purchase history are retained for as long as your account exists, so we can honor unused/never-expiring credits and for payment record-keeping.

6. Children’s privacy

This service is intended for students of all ages under parental or teacher supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The free tier requires no account, so no identifiable personal information is collected there. Pro accounts require an email address and should only be created by a parent, teacher, or an adult learner.

7. Your rights

You may request deletion of any review or rating, or of your Pro account (email, credit balance, and purchase history), by contacting us via our contact form. Free-tier usage does not create a personal profile beyond IP-based counters, so there is nothing to access or export there.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
