Class 9 Science is actually three subjects in one: Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. Most students study the 15 chapters as a single blob and lose marks in the numerical Physics chapters or forget which definitions belong to Chemistry. This guide maps the streams so you can tackle them with the right strategy for each.

Syllabus by stream
The NCERT textbook interleaves Physics, Chemistry, and Biology chapters. The grouping below separates them so you can revise one stream end-to-end and then switch ā which is how most toppers approach Class 9 Science.
Linear progression ā study in order. Mixtures chapter establishes physical separation concepts; the two atom chapters build atomic theory from observation to structure.
Diagram-heavy stream. Revise with labelled drawings ā cell types, tissue types, reproductive diagrams, and classification trees earn marks that text alone cannot. Earth as a System integrates ecology into this stream.
Formula-driven stream. For every numerical chapter, write the formula, state what each variable means, then substitute with units. The introductory chapter sets the inquiry mindset for the whole book.

Study insight
The Physics stream rewards students who write units and directions; Chemistry rewards students who define terms without borrowing Biology language; Biology rewards diagram accuracy and sequential recall. Treating all 15 chapters as one undifferentiated mass usually means a student studies only what they find comfortable and skips the stream that needs the most practice.
